Editorial Policy and How We Review

How we research, write, review, rate, update and correct content on FitSpresso Insider.

Editorial Policy and How We Review

Our principles

  1. Accuracy over enthusiasm. We report what the evidence shows, including small or null effects.
  2. Transparency. We cite sources, explain our ratings and disclose how we make money.
  3. Safety first. We prominently cover side effects, interactions and who should avoid a product.
  4. Independence. No manufacturer or seller reviews or approves our content before publication.

How we research

For each ingredient, we look first for systematic reviews and meta-analyses of human randomised controlled trials, then for fact sheets from the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, then for individual human trials. We use animal and laboratory studies only to explain mechanisms, and we say so when we do. We open and read every source we cite.

How we rate evidence

Evidence ratings
RatingMeaning
StrongMultiple high-quality trials or meta-analyses show a consistent, clinically meaningful effect
ModerateMeta-analyses of human trials show a small but consistent effect
LimitedSome human trials, but results are mixed, small, short or limited to specific groups
WeakLittle reliable human evidence for the specific claim

Ratings apply to the specific role a product assigns an ingredient, not to the ingredient in general.

How we score products

Our review scores weigh ingredient transparency, strength of evidence, safety profile, value for money, guarantee and buying experience, and ease of use. Evidence and safety carry more weight than price.

Medical review

Health and safety content is reviewed by Dr Dave Hepburn, a retired Canadian physician. The reviewer checks medical accuracy, safety warnings and that we do not overstate benefits. The reviewer does not set ratings or commercial decisions.

Customer reviews and testimonials

We only publish customer feedback that is attributable, dated and shared with permission. We never write testimonials ourselves, and we do not display star ratings or customer counts we cannot verify.

Prices and offers

Prices and terms are checked on the seller’s order page and dated. They can change without notice; the checkout price always applies.

Updates and corrections

We review key pages at least every six months, and sooner when prices, terms or important research change. Each page shows when it was last updated. If you find an error, email contact@fitsspresso.com. We correct factual errors promptly and note significant corrections on the page.

Affiliate links

We earn commissions from some links. Commissions do not influence ratings, and we do not accept payment for positive coverage. See our affiliate disclosure.

Language we use

Dietary supplements are not allowed to claim to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease, and we follow that rule in our own writing. We use phrases such as “may support” or “has been studied for”, and we tell readers with symptoms or medical conditions to see a doctor.
