L-Carnitine in FitSpresso: The Fat-Transport Ingredient
L-carnitine ferries fatty acids into your cells’ mitochondria, which makes it a popular “fat-burning” ingredient. In FitSpresso it sits inside a 112 mg blend, a tiny fraction of the doses used in weight trials.

What is L-carnitine?
Carnitine is made by the liver, kidneys and brain and found in red meat and dairy. About 95 percent is stored in heart and skeletal muscle. NIH notes healthy people make enough and do not need it from food or supplements. Absorption from supplements is only about 14 to 18 percent.
What the research shows
A 2016 meta-analysis of nine trials found 1.33 kg more weight loss than control, with the effect shrinking over time. A 2020 dose-response meta-analysis of 43 trials found about 1.13 kg more weight loss and 1.16 kg more fat loss, only in people with overweight or obesity and alongside lifestyle changes. NIH calls the evidence equivocal. These trials used 1.8 to 4 grams a day.
What FitSpresso’s amount means
Because L-carnitine is inside a 112 mg blend shared with four other ingredients, FitSpresso supplies at most about 3 to 6 percent of the doses studied for weight. Online claims that FitSpresso “burns fat” through L-carnitine are not supported at this dose.
Side effects and interactions
At around 3 grams a day, carnitine can cause nausea, cramps, diarrhoea and a fishy odour; these are unlikely at FitSpresso’s amount. Anticonvulsants such as valproic acid lower carnitine levels, and carnitine has been linked to seizures in people with seizure disorders, so people on these medicines should ask their neurologist.
Bottom line
L-carnitine has a modest evidence base at gram-level doses. In FitSpresso it is a token amount and should not influence your decision.
